2023 Grammy Awards Predictions – Variety

This year’s Grammys are similar to the Oscars in at least one respect—it’s a real competition for most, if not all, of the top fields. The question that has changed the most lately is: Who is competing? Last fall, Variety published a story raising the possibility that the 2023 awards could be a battle to the finish between Adele and Beyoncé, just like in 2017. But, speaking of “the way it was,” the sands seem to have moved where they were now more widely seen as a contest between Beyoncé and Harry Styles in three all-genre categories where all three artists are nominated — Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. .
That’s not to say that Adele has yet to pull it off or even manage a sweep in one of those three top categories; He may be a quiet favorite, especially among older voters who used to serve as a silent majority (and now, in an effort to diversify and younger the Recording Academy, may be a strong, silent minority). But the tea leaves, and conversations with real voters, lead us to believe that Styles has finally shaken off any boy-band stigma, come from behind, and has enough support to at least split the top division with Beyoncé. Adele, though highly regarded, seems to have already been rewarded enough by many — though neither Styles nor Beyoncé have ever won for record or album of the year. This is especially notable in Beyoncé’s case: this year, she could break the record for most Grammy wins of all time despite never winning in the top four categories unless we’re proven wrong and they close again.
Best new artist? It’s almost anyone’s guess, though, that out of the 10 nominees, it’s easy to rule out at least half of them that even most Grammy voters have never heard of. Batas is backing Maneskin, Omar Apollo, Samara Joy, Anitta or Wet Leg — it could be a real photo finish among the five, though we can’t completely rule out Muni Long, the sixth candidate there.
Below are some predictions for the Grammy Awards category:
