According to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department representative, ground crews responded and began searching the area shortly after Sands, 65, went missing. However, the risk of avalanches and road conditions forced the teams to pull out on Saturday evening after nearly 24 hours of searching

Authorities conducted intermittent searches by helicopters and drones. However, a search team was not deployed for more than four days.
