Amazon Music Increases Prices on Unlimited Plans

Amazon Music is getting a little pricey for some customers.

The Amazon Music Unlimited personal plan for non-Prime members in the US is increasing by $1 per month, from $9.99 to $10.99 per month. Also, the Amazon Music Unlimited Student Plan is going from $4.99 to $5.99 per month.

In the UK, Amazon Music Unlimited Individual is increasing from £9.99 to £10.99 per month and the Unlimited Student plan is changing from £4.99 to £5.99 per month.

The updated prices are effective from February 21, 2023 Customers will see the new price (including applicable taxes) on their first bill after that date “To help us bring more content and features, we’re updating the pricing of select Amazon Music Unlimited plans,” the ecommerce company said in a notice on its support site.

In May 2022, the company raised the price of Amazon Music Unlimited personal plans for Prime members from $7.99 to $8.99 per month (or from $79 to $89 per year). It came after Amazon raised the price of Prime membership in the US for the first time in nearly four years, raising the annual fee for the program by 17% from $119 to $139 in early 2022.

Apple raised the price of Apple Music for the first time in October 2022 following Amazon Music’s last price increase, which increased from $9.99 to $10.99 per month for the individual plan (and increased the price for the family plan with six accounts from $14.99 to $16.99 per month). Spotify chief Daniel Eck said the company is also considering price increases in the U.S., where it still charges $9.99 per month for an individual plan.

Meanwhile, last fall Amazon Music expanded the number of songs available as part of Prime from the previous 2 million to a full catalog of 100 million tracks and added hundreds of thousands of podcast episodes ad-free, along with Wonder’s full slate of shows. However, listening to Amazon Music Prime members (those not subscribing to an unlimited plan) is now mostly limited to shuffle-play mode based on artist, album or playlist, whereas previously 2 million songs were available to stream on-demand. .
