And Cader bought the 1920 Wallace Nef House in Altadena – different

Legendary guitarist Ryland “Rai” Kuder has lived in the seaside town of Santa Monica for decades, but 2020 is clearly leading the Septogenarian rocker to venture into new residential areas. He has spent $ 2.5 million on an IDSyncratic compound in the relatively unpredictable wilderness of the San Gabriel Valley, Altadena.

Located just north of the wide, tree-lined road north of 210 Freeway, the new Kudar property is invisible to most pedestrians, obscured by a dense canopy of leaves. A well-maintained brick walkway leads from the street to the wooden front door of the house, which opens into a suitable fireplace connected to well-scaled public rooms.

Built in 1927, the original house was designed by iconic architect Wallace Nef in his distinctive “California Mission” style, combining elements of Mediterranean and Spanish Renaissance architecture. The two-story one-room house has more than 3,100 square feet of seating with 4 bedrooms, all with full bathrooms. And a suite at the bottom of the bedroom, making it the ideal choice for any live-in housekeeper or overnight guest.

In addition to a detached two-car garage, the .62-acre flat lot also offers a one-bedroom, two-bath guesthouse, originally built in 1959 in the coveted Midcenture modern style. That sun structure provides a fireplace, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, a kitchen and its own dedicated Alfresco dining area.

While the guesthouse is mostly in its original condition, the Nef-designed original home has clearly undergone some interior renovations over the last century. The kitchen has carpeted floors, granite countertops and some rather unfortunate 1980s wooden cabinets. Still, many authentic details of the 1920s remain – in a courtyard with beautiful cassette windows, open wooden beamed rolled ceilings, ornate fireplaces in the living room, and an ancient oak shaded stone fountain.

The Midcentury Guesthouse directly overlooks the property’s large swimming pool, which is adorned with a narrow concrete spire and huge palms. Other outdoor amenities include a gazebo, mostly a riot of tribal vegetation, a stone path that goes through the collection of mature trees, such as the forest of the property, and surprisingly wide lawns.

According to the lists, the house has been in the same family since the 1960s and is an “architecturally significant work of art”. And it will appear that several potential buyers have seen the price – $ 2.5 million final sale price over $ 300,000 More More than the price of the initial inquiry indicates that Bid has won a tough battle to secure the premises.

Kuder, ranked # 31 on Rolling Stone’s 2015 list of the 100 best guitarists, continues his current home in Santa Monica: a two-house, multi-million-dollar compound that runs along the Pacific Ocean.

Although it is quite close to the nearest beach, Kudar’s new Altadena excavations include the Old Town Pasadena, the iconic Huntington Library in San Marino, and the numerous hiking trails in the surrounding Angels National Forest.

Although Pasadena and Altadena histor adjoining the San Gabriel Valley were not historically known as Hollywood celebrity havens, this seems to be changing rapidly. Meryl Streep, Kristen Wig, Shea Lebouff, Jason Siegel, Jenny Garth, Anthony Rousseau, Grimes and Steven Eun have all bought homes in recent years, and the region’s growing demand – and rising prices – indicate that the trend is likely to continue.

Compass comprises John Moreno and Daniel Villarreal; Mysner’s byrne Atkinson has removed Kuder again.
