“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania” got a brand new trailer Monday night during the College Football Playoff National Championship, and it features not one, but many Paul Ruds.
Rudd’s Scott Lang makes a deal with multiverse-hopping villain Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, as he seeks to recover the five years he lost during the blip in “Avengers: Endgame.” At that time, his daughter, Cassie Lang, became a teenager, and it seemed that Scott would do anything to make up for lost time with her. And when her contract with Kang is voided, she’s willing to sacrifice herself. Plus, we get some Paul Rudd-multiverse mayhem as two identical versions of Ant-Man face off, and more run around wild in the quantum realm.
The third installment of director Peyton Reed’s “Ant-Man” trilogy also brings back Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, aka the Wasp, inventors Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne, who were rescued from the Quantum Realm in 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp.” Also joining the super-family as Cassie is Kathryn Newton, who dons a purple Ant-Man suit herself.
The trailer showcases the brutal Kang, who was last seen as He Who Remains in the Season 1 finale of “Loki” on Disney+. He Who Remains, a form of Kang from an alternate timeline, is killed by Sylvie (Sofia Di Martino) in the show’s finale, setting off waves of multifaceted chaos and Kang’s fury, a universe-crossing threat.
The purple-and-green-suited villain will be a big player in the MCU’s current multiverse saga. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed the slate of upcoming films for Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU, culminating with two “Avengers” movies in 2025 and 2026. The first, titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” will be directed by “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton. Although nothing official is known about the film, the team-up movie will be the key to the conclusion of the story and possibly once again. Majors will feature the titular villain.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania” hits theaters on February 17, 2023. Watch the full trailer below.
