Avatar 3: Lo’K replaces Jake Sully as narrator, says James Cameron

Jake Sully is about to be replaced by his own son. In a recent interview on “Soundtracking with Edith Bowman,” James Cameron let it slip that his “Avatar” franchise will feature a different narrator for each of the three remaining sequels. Jack Sully, played by Sam Worthington, was the narrator of “Avatar” and “Avatar: The Way of Water.” For the upcoming and as-yet-untitled “Avatar 3,” which is now in post-production, Jack’s son Lo’K (played by Britten Dalton via motion capture) will take over as narrator.

“I’m going to take a few moments when the dust clears to assess what people like and what they’ve reacted to most in this current release, and then I can go back and tinker a bit. [with ‘Avatar 3’]Cameron said. “We can go back and do a few moments here and there. It won’t be radical, but maybe tweak it a bit to emphasize what people are responding to.”

“For example, Lo’K really emerged as a character that people went with,” Cameron continued. “So I can find ways…he’s already the narrator. I’m giving something away here, but that’s okay. I think it might be interesting for people to think about what’s coming. Jack was our voiceover narrator for Movie One and Movie Two, and we’ve had a different narrator for each subsequent film. We see it through the eyes of a different character. Through the eyes of movie three people.

Get ready to see more of Lo’k in “Avatar 3”. The character is the middle child of Jack (Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and is a bit of a hothead who struggles to live up to the reputation set by his older brother Netium (Jamie Flatters). Moving on to the next film, Lo’k is now the eldest Suli child after Netiyam’s death. He may also form a relationship with Tsireya (Bailey Bass), whose seed was hinted at in “The Way of Water”.

While additional details about “Avatar 3” are under wraps, Cameron did let it slip that it will feature a new tribe of Fire Na’vi that won’t be kind to Jake Sully and his family.

“There will be a different culture than what I’ve already shown,” Cameron told France’s “20 Minutes” about the next sequel. “The fire will be represented by ‘Ash People’. I want to show Navid from a different angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.”

“In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive navel examples,” the director continued. “In ‘Avatar 3’ we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before the food is served.”

“Avatar: The Way of Water” is now playing in theaters nationwide and is set to cross $2 billion at the global box office.
