Bad Robot Productions and the Katie McGraw & JJ Abrams Family Foundation have announced charitable donations to a number of organizations as “committed to anti-apartheid agendas.”
In a statement posted on the Bad Robot Instagram page on Monday, they pledged 10 10 million over five years for the following organizations: Black Lives Matter LA, Black Future Lab, Community Coalition, Equal Justice Initiative and Know Your Rights Camp Know
The statement began, “Enough is enough”. “Adequate police brutality. Sufficient facilities. Enough humble conversation. Enough white comfort. “
“The issue of centuries of neglect and abuse of our black brothers and sisters can only be solved by scalable investments,” it continues. Corporate and private philanthropy can never achieve the effects needed to address these systemic inequalities, but we must do what we can until political institutions and individuals are capable of leading our political leaders. “

The promise came after a week of mass protests and riots in the United States following the death of George Floyd. Floyd died in Minneapolis on May 25 after police officer Derek Chauvin knocked Floyd’s neck for about nine minutes while trying to arrest him. An independent autopsy, released Monday, found that Floyd had died of asphyxiation, in contrast to a preliminary study by Henepin County Medical Examiner.
