Britney Spears posts about ‘My Freedom’ deletes Instagram account

Two days after her engagement was announced, and shortly after her father agreed to step down as guardian after 13 years, Britney Spears posted on Instagram “I’ve waited 13 years and I’m counting on my freedom,” and then apparently her whole Instagram account deleted.

In the deleted post, Spears shared an article titled “Teaching by Heart” and then wrote:

“Growing up in a world where basically almost everything I did was controlled by someone else … I hope this message reaches people who have been confused or manipulated by a system !!!!” In addition to a screenshot of the article, Spears wrote in his caption. “No… you are not alone and no… you are not crazy !!!! People need to hear it before it’s too late !!!! I have waited 13 years and are counting for my freedom !!!!! ”

He also thanked the #Fribritney team for their support. Spears has shared the article in the past, which encourages children to explore their curiosity instead of teaching it in a more formal way.

Celebrities and musicians often delete their social media accounts either to signal a big new announcement, such as an album, or when they’re just annoyed. Spears representatives did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment, but a source did not see Spears’ move as a big deal.

News of Spears’ engagement came just days after her father, Jamie Spears, ended his conservatism, signaling the beginning of the end of the long, drawn-out legal battle between the 13-year-old pop star. (Spears was first placed under conservatism in 200 Spe when his father requested a court order; he has been in charge of his estate ever since.)

Although Spears’ father requested that the conservatism be terminated, the singer’s legal team never asked the court to close it, and his attorney, Matthew Rosengart, only requested that his father be removed and suspended. However, regardless of her father’s motivation, Rosengert hailed the move as a “massive legal victory” for the star.

Spears’ next hearing is Sept. 2.
