Following the unexpected popularity of the new Netflix movie “A California Christmas”, the holiday romantic comedy is getting a sequel.
The production company behind the film, Ali Afshar, quickly tracked the pre-production for ESX Entertainment follow-up, titled “California Christmas: City Lights.” Filming is expected to begin in early 2021 in various areas of Northern California, including Petaluma, Sonoma County and surrounding areas.
Netflix doesn’t provide consistent viewing metrics for its movie or television shows, but has become a breakout in the “A California Christmas” streamer charts. This feeling good film, which premiered on December 14, has been ranked No. 1 worldwide for a week and has remained in the top ten ever since. According to Forbes, “A California Christmas” has lost Ryan Murphy’s musical “The Prom”, where there are perennial favorites like Meryl Streep, James Corden and Nicole Kidman, as well as “How Grinch Stolen Christmas” for the top spot on the platform? Afshar is reconsidering with co-producers and lead stars Lauren and Josh Suicard, who played the original couple and got married in real life. The pair romance drama about the daughter of a progressive city councilman on the set of Afshar’s film “Roped” in 2017, who fell in love with a cowboy on a traveling radio.
“A California Christmas” follows a charming and wealthy real estate heir who struggled to find a hardworking farmer to sell his family’s land before being united as several well-known faces, including the sequel Leo (Afshar), Manny (David del Rio) and others. As can be seen, Lauren’s character Casey has agreed to her new beauty Joseph’s social high life.
The sequel is written by Lauren Suicard and Sean Pixinino is returning live. The producer of the first film, Daniel Espromonte, will return to “California Christmas: City Lights.”
