Energa Cameram, a cinematography-based film festival, will honor filmmaker and director Colin Tilly with his achievement at the 29th edition of the Music Video Awards, held in Tarun, Poland.
Tilly, CEO and owner of Boy in the Castle Productions, is a self-taught Bay Area filmmaker who began his directing career for local rappers at the age of 19 and began editing music videos. He had access to new levels of talent.
Artists for whom Tilly has written and directed music videos include Kendrick Lamar, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Enrique Iglesias, Zendaya, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Usher, Rita Ora, Cheryl Cole, Wiz Khalifa and The Band Perry. . He also directed commercials for his first short film, “Mr. 201 Happy, starring Chance the rapper, and commercials for Reebok, YSL, Fresh Empire, Beats by Dre, and Minaj’s perfume Pink Friday.”
Tilly’s “OK” music video for Lamar was nominated for Music Video of the Year for the 2016 Grammy. It won the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards for Camera and Best Direction for Video of the Year.
Also, Tilly won Best Male Video at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards for Chris Brown’s “Look at Me”, Justin Bieber’s “You Smile” and Best Hip Hop Video in 2015 at the 2011 BET Awards. Video Music Award for Minaj’s “Anaconda”.
Most recently, Tilly directed “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power,” a concept feature film starring Halsey and starring Trent Rezner and Atticus Ross, Vivian Westwood.
In addition to receiving his award at this year’s Camry, he will also sit on the jury for Tilly Fest’s music video competition.
