Magnolia Pictures has appeared in the documentary “Citizen Ashe” by Emmy winner Rex Miller and Academy Award nominee Sam Pollard. Extraordinary award nominees will go to theaters in New York on Dec December and in Los Angeles on December 10, in anticipation of Oscar recognition at the height of the awards season.
With an academy campaign produced by Dougoff for CNN Films and HBO Max, the film explores the legacy of three-time tennis legend and humanitarian Arthur Ash, who won three Grand Slams by breaking barriers in the sport. Despite being a top athlete, Ash struggled with health problems at the age of 36 after suffering a heart attack. He contracted HIV from a blood transfusion and underwent heart surgery, and died in 1993 at the age of 49 from AIDS-related pneumonia.
“Sam Pollard and Rex Miller gave a wonderful, moving perspective to the life of a true iconoclast who made his own way and denied stereotypes at every turn,” said Emon Bowles, president of Magnolia Pictures.
Pollard spoke with Diversity “Everything he did on the tennis court was excellent and that went off the court,” he said of the film.

The film had its world premiere at the Telride Film Festival in September and will have its international premiere on October 10 at the BFI London Film Festival.
