Dakota Johnson kicked off the 2023 Sundance Film Festival with a smile.

Johnson, who appeared as a presenter at the inaugural “A Taste of Sundance” dinner Thursday night, joked that she was offered the role of Peach in Luca Guadagnino’s Oscar-winning indie “Call Me by Your Name,” but had to due to scheduling conflicts. Reject it for reasons.

“Thank God though,” she said. “I’d be another woman trying to eat an army hammer.”

Johnson praised Guadagnino as a lover of cinema (and Prada) when he presented him with the International Icon Award. He starred in his remake of “Suspiria,” but his joke about Hammer had the room gasping and laughing.

Hammer, who starred opposite Timothée Chalamet in “Call Me by Your Name,” has been accused of cannibalistic fetishes, sexual assault and abusive behavior by extramarital partners. Hammer has denied the claims.

In the film, Hammer plays Chalamet’s love interest, whose character Elio has sex with a piece of fruit, which Hammer eventually discovers.

“It’s been five years since that film premiered here, and Luca hasn’t stopped taking us to exciting places,” Johnson said, referring to Guadagnino’s 2022 film “Bones and All,” a cannibal romance drama that also starred Chalamet.

“Who knew cannibals were so popular?” He’s joking
