Daniel Craig and Ruth Nega are joining to bring “Macbeth” back to Brandway.
Craig is returning to the Great White Way after starring in “A Steady Rain” and “Betrayal” to play the title role, while Nega debuts on Broadway as Lady Macbeth. The upcoming revival will last for a limited 15 weeks of engagement.
Shakespeare’s tragedy, which involves hatred, marriage and murder, tells the emotional story of a couple’s power – and their guilt after doing unimaginable things. A press release announcing the show promises that “this thrilling new production will capture the passion and violence of Shakespeare’s most haunting text as never before.”
Sam Gold (“Dolls House, Part 2” and “Fun Home”) is directing the Scottish play. It is scheduled to open on April 2, 2022, the night before the opening at the Lyceum Theater in Broadway. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
“I am thrilled to see the theater re-emerge in this historic historical season, and to work with two such talented actors in one of the most challenging and epic plays in theatrical literature.” Gold said in a statement. “I can’t wait to get started!”
Barbara will produce the Brockley play, reuniting veteran James Bond producer Craig, who recently finished his five-film career as a British secret agent in “No Time to Die”.
“Daniel is not only a great film actor, he is also a great theater actor. I am thrilled that he will support his return to Broadway with his extraordinary talent, Ruth Neger, who made his Broadway debut and under the expert guidance of Sam Gold, ”Brockley said in a statement.
“Macbeth” will feature Christine Jones’ natural design, Sutirat Larlerb’s costume design, Jane Cox’s lighting design, Mikal Sulaiman’s sound design, Gailin Lear’s original music, Jeremy Chernic’s special effects design, David Leopard’s fighting direction, David Leung’s direction.
In addition, Michael Sexton and Ayana Thompson will act as text consultants and Don-Elin Fraser will act as vocal coach. Kevin Bertolassi will serve as Production Stage Manager and 101 Productions, Ltd. General Manager.
In addition to broccoli, producers will include the Schubert firm, Michael G. Wilson and Frederick Zolo. Patrick Daly will work as an executive producer.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public on October 8 at 10 am.
