The most performed R&B and hip-hop songs in the BMI collection were awarded the 2021 BMI R&B / Hip-Hop Award, recognizing the previous year’s top lyricists, producers and music publishers. Held across virtually all BMI digital and social channels, the Marquee category included Song of the Year, lyricist, producer and publisher.

Written and served by Doza Cat, “Lee Soya” and co-authored by Lydia Asrat, honored the Year of the Home Song. The Triple-Platinum Certified Single also received a Grammy nomination for Record of the Year and Best Pop Single Performance.

Roddy Rich was named lyricist of the year for five credits out of BMI’s 5 most performed hip-hop / R&B songs before. The rapper’s “The Box” has spent 11 weeks at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has become the rapper’s highest charting song ever. Features of Dabby’s “Rockstar”, Pop Smoke’s “The Woo” and Mustard’s “Bolin” and “High Fashion” have risen to the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Producer of the Year went to Metro Bumin, winning his fourth award, for his work with 21 Savage (“Glock in My Lap,” “Many Men,” “Mr. Wright Now,” “Rich Na Sha * t,” “Rannin.” , “And” Slydeen “) and Lil Dark’s” Stay Down “with 6lack and Young Thug.

Cobalt Music Publishing was named Publisher of the Year for representing 1 of BMI’s highest performing R&B / Hip-Hop songs of 2020, including Drake and Lil Dark’s “Laugh Now Cry Let” and Megan Thi Stallion’s “Savage”. .
