Emma Watts has resigned as president of Paramount’s Motion Picture Group, sources said Diversity.
Watts stepped down in less than a year, leaving his former Fox boss Jim Giannopoulos on the hill যার whose resignation as chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures rocked Hollywood in early September.
A ViacomCBS representative who owns Paramount did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
With Watts’ departure, predicted by industry insiders in the days following the Giannopoulos news, many in the industry and on Wall Street speculate that Viacom is no longer interested in renting Grand Theater and its streaming service is prioritizing volume over Paramount Plus.
Studio insiders insisted that Paramount was committed to releasing its current slate – including “Top Gun: Maverick” and the upcoming “Mission: Impossible” sequels – in theaters.
After his arrival, the trade headlines celebrated the veteran production executive as the “White Knight of Paramount”, a man of business acumen and deep talent who knew how to make dramatic movies. That could bring this historic historical studio back to its former glory, having worked in top franchises such as the “X-Men”, “Avatar” and “Deadpool” series, from its long-standing seat of twentieth-century Fox.
THR first broke the news. More to come.
