Ethan Hawke Directs Maya Hawke as Flannery O’Connor in ‘Wildcat’

Ethan Hawke has begun production on “Wildcat,” a look at the life of Flannery O’Connor starring Maya Hawke as a Southern writer. He assembled heavy hitters including Oscar-nominated Laura Linney (“You Can Count On Me”), Philip Ettinger (“First Reformed”), Rafael Casale (“Blindspotting”), Steve Zahn (“White Lotus”). . , Cooper Hoffman (“Licorice Pizza”), Willa Fitzgerald (“Reacher”), Alessandro Nivola (“The Many Saints of Newark”) and Vincent D’Onofrio (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent”).

In addition to directing the film, Ethan Hawke produced and co-wrote the screenplay with Shelby Gaines. “Wildcat” is produced by Good Country Pictures’ Joe Goodman, Under the Influence Productions’ Ryan Hawke and Ethan Hawke, Renovo Media Group’s Corey Pike and Kingdom Story Company’s Kevin Downes and John Erwin and Daryl LeFever. Eric Groth and David Kingland of Renovo Media Group executive produce alongside Maya Hawke through Under the Influence Productions. Principal photography began on January 10 in Louisville, Ky. Renovo is fully financing the film. UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance are handling worldwide distribution rights.

“Wildcat” will follow O’Connor as she struggles to publish her first novel A devout Catholic from Georgia, O’Connor was invited to the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Famous for her offbeat short fiction about the American South and her faith, she was plagued by lupus for most of her life and died at age 39. His work continues to be read, studied and admired and he has received posthumous accolades including National Book Awards. O’Connor’s notable works include two books of short stories: “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” and “Everything That Rises Must Converge” as well as the novel “Wise Blood”.

Ethan Hawke previously worked with daughter Maya Hawke on the limited series “The Good Lord Bird,” but he’s directing her for the first time with “Wildcat.”
