Following an epidemic-inspired 2020 hybrid edition, the 10th edition of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival will be held entirely in private.
The festival will begin with Benito Zambrano’s Mallorca-set literary adaptation “Lemon and Poppy Seed Cake” (Spain). Zambrano will be present with the lead actors. It will conclude with the world premiere of William Nunez’s 1920 set “The Laureate” (UK), based on the unconventional home life of the acclaimed war poet Robert Graves. Nunez and his lead actors, Tom Hughes, Diana Agron and Laura Haddock, as well as the Graves family will be in attendance. Both films are part of an international feature competition.
At the opening night ceremony, Wim Wanderers will receive the Evolution Award 2021, the highest honor of the festival, and his film “The Salt of the Earth” (2014) will be screened.
Suzanne Lyndon, who is competing in the “Spring Blossom” (France) festival, will receive the 2021 Evolution Prize – New Talent Appreciation.
Other featured contest titles include Jacqueline Bethany’s “Highway One” (USA), Mary Henin’s “The Dormouse King” (Germany), Samuel Rios y Wallace’s “The Des I Lost” (Mexico), Jillian Ackerman’s “Queen of the Andes” ( Canada), Kirsty Bell’s “A Bird Flew In” (UK), Weng Yu’s “Three Wishes” (China) and Jules Williamson’s “Off the Rails” (UK).
Also, the festival features international competitions and a documentary feature that includes a strong shorts program in addition to the balearics competition.
In all, the 139 films at the festival have 27 world premieres, 31 Spanish premieres and 12 European premieres in 32 countries.
“Our line-up this year invites us to have tea with Robert Graves in the English countryside, eat lemon cake in the Mallorca hills, experience first love in Paris and age in China; We can send bohemian nights in Northern California, cultural clashes in Berlin and even Mars, ”said Sandra Ceiling Lipsky, director and curator of the festival. “I’m happy to say that our international competition feature film-line features most of the women-directed features এবং and also the first of six of the 10 films controversial in this category.”
“Evolution discovers new talents and connects them with their art professionals within seven days on the island of Mallorca; This particular blend creates a strong force for exploring culture and creating new projects together, ”Lipsky added.
