Facebook to switch White House accounts from Trump to Biden

President Trump has so far refused to publicly acknowledge that he lost the 2020 election, but in any case, he and his administration will lose access to White House accounts on Facebook and Instagram in less than two months.

Facebook has confirmed that by January 20, 2021, when President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 4th U.S. President, users on both the White House’s official Facebook accounts – Whitehouse, @ Potash and @ Flotus – and Instagram users will be transferred to the Biden administration. .

Twitter also said earlier that @ Potash and other handles would be transferred to the biden team on the opening day.

“In 2017, we worked with both the Obama administration and the incoming Trump administration to ensure that the transition to their Facebook and Instagram accounts went smoothly on January 20, and we expect to do the same here,” a Facebook spokesman told Reuters in a statement.

Trump’s personal accounts on Facebook and Instagram will not be affected by the White House change.

Trump has relentlessly insisted on spreading unnecessary information on social media that the 2020 election was a massive voter fraud. Trump’s legal team, led by Rudy Giuliani, has lost or withdrawn more than 30 lawsuits related to attempts to change the outcome of the outgoing presidential election.

In the past two weeks, Facebook has tagged numerous Trump posts – where he claims voter fraud or otherwise questioned the legitimacy of the 2020 election – conspiracy theories – with messages saying Biden is the expected winner of the election.

Facebook has added caution labels to Trump’s posts under the policy adopted this summer, before CEO Mark Zuckerberg insisted his organization would not “fact check” politicians. Under current policy, Trump’s posts will no longer occupy the White House as a matter of fact-checking.

Meanwhile, Twitter @Realdonald will remove the special exemption for Trump – under which it will release tweets from political leaders that would otherwise violate Twitter’s usage policy – when Trump becomes a private citizen in January.
