Disney has ended a free seven-day promotional trial for Disney Plus – with the company being told that freebies don’t need to risk attracting new customers to the streaming service.
“We continue to test and evaluate various marketing, offers and promotions to enhance Disney Plus,” a company representative said in a statement. “The service was set on a price offer from an attractive price which we believe it provides an attractive entertaining gift in itself.”
The end of the free-trial promo of Disney Plus, one of the industry’s largest consumer-acquisition tools, was first demonstrated by the French news site Numeramar.
In early May, Disney Plus signed up 54.5 million subscribers worldwide just six months after its launch. In the United States, it is 99 to 6.99 per month or per year. Costs 69.99.
The move by Disney Plus to stop giving trial accounts came before the premiere of “Hamilton” on July 3, before the production of the hit musical-based movie Lynn-Manuel Mirander took place in theaters about a year ago. Disney Plus also features a streaming home dedicated to movies and TV shows from brands including Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars, and an array of original titles.
Disney also does not offer free trials of the three-way Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus bundles (separately 26% discount compared to 29% discount on service purchases).
Meanwhile, on an individual basis, Hulu – which is regulated by DISN – still offers free trials of various lengths. Currently, the পরিকল্পনা 5.99 monthly plan with ads and 99 11.99 monthly package without ads is free for one month for eligible customers. Hulu + live TV, which is every month. Starting at 54 54.99, offers a free seven-day test
Netflix continues to offer a 30-day free trial period, while WarnerMedia’s recently launched HBO Max currently offers a seven-day free trial.
