HBO launches ‘The Recipe’ with Max’s Sean in Black Ghetto Gastro

HBO Max’s Scene in Black launches new digital series “The Recipe with Ghetto Gastro,” an interview-style social franchise that blends food’s rich, cultural history — and community-building potential — with the network’s talent and programming.

The new series debuted as part of Black’s Black History Month celebration under the theme “Celebrating Black Stories Today and Every Day.”

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with a collective like Ghetto Gastro, which shares our mission to elevate black stories and the cultures that inspire us,” said Jackie Gagne, SVP of Multicultural Marketing at Warner Bros. Discovery. “With this custom content series, we will celebrate the black experience, community and unity.”

Ghetto Gastro, a culinary collective started in 2012 by John Gray, Pierre Serrao and Lester Walker, uses food as a tool to tell stories about where we come from and the cultures that inspire us, proving that food really does connect us all. by

“The Recipe” pairs the trio with HBO Max talent to share their stories, perspectives and home cooking tips. The first episode, which is now live on Black’s YouTube and social media scene, serves as an introduction to the series, where we meet Ghetto Gastro and their cooking of Triple C, inspired by HBO’s “The Wire.” New episodes will be released on Black’s social platforms periodically throughout the year.

In September 2021, diversity announced the exclusive launch of Scene in Black, a branded initiative that brings together Black talent, creatives and fans from HBO and HBO Max through experiential events and strategic partnerships, celebrating Black stories throughout the year.
