Zendaya, Marley Matlin and Jean Smart have been honored with the Women in Film 2021 Crystal Award. Previously, the Crystal + Lucy Awards, the annual benefit, supported WIF’s educational and philanthropic programs and its support for gender equality for women throughout the industry.
Also honored will be “Coda” writer Sean Header, “Hacks” actress Hannah Ainbinder and producer Ashley Levinson. WIF honors will celebrate women who are furthering the industry, with new innovations in how to create workplaces for women, with renewed commitment to empathy, care and justice across intersecting identities.
This year, the awards ceremony will be held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles in October, in person.
The WIF Honors Committee, chaired by Easter Chang, is made up of Jamila Hunter, Michelle Lee, Monica Levinson, Talitha Watkins and Lauren Williams. “We are thrilled to honor some of the women in our industry who have embraced the unparalleled challenges of our time and together developed and transformed and created lasting impact and opportunities,” Chang said.
“We are honoring this pair of women with the Crystal Award to reflect the concerted effort it takes to reward this industry with equality and make it more inclusive and successful. Even in the most difficult times, these women are moving towards a more ideal future, ”said WIF Executive Director Kirsten Schaefer.
WIF honors are supported by sponsor Max Marar for the 18th year, as well as visionary partners Shivhans Pictures and Lexus and major partners Google and Starz. The event was designed and produced by Carlin Capelletti of Anchor Street Collective.
