How the lyricists of ‘Frozen 2’ inspired Olaf to write ‘I’m With You’ – Variety

“We can sing, we can share the music and we can make people feel alone,” Kristen Anderson-Lopez said during a discussion of a new song, “I’m with you,” separated from her family in Connecticut. The most favorite “icy” characters.
The Oscar-winning musician / songwriter was still living in a Brooklyn apartment with double-EGOT-winning husband Bobby Lopez when the coronavirus epidemic stopped filming, producing and shutting down schools.
As the parents of two teenage daughters, Lopez remembers the uncertainties of their lives and the world. Anderson-Lopez says: “Most of our friends were sick during the first two weeks and we hold music when we can’t do anything.”
The pair were inspired in these first two weeks. “It started when Disney released‘ Ice Cool 2 ’early on at Disney Plus and it impressed us to understand how our work is helping people through this,” Lopez said.

As it turns out, there was a series of “Frozen” movie works about Disney’s much-loved Snowman Olaf. Director Jennifer Lee suggested the idea of writing a letter to Olaf. “We don’t know who it is, but we feel it belongs to us,” said Krutier Anderson-Lopez.
The first two weeks were about social distance and segregation, and who better to give a message about being there and caring than Olaf to give a hug (Ish) hug character?
Anderson-Lopez wrote the melody of the fountain. “I wrote most of it there,” he admits. “I wrote the rest while coming out of the shower and dripping wet because I only had time.”
The lyricist reveals that he too was struggling to find time for himself and once he left the bedroom he would cook, teach, do laundry and be a housemaid. That writing moment was the time to get creative and write songs on “I’m With You” and just “run with it”.
He wrote the song in an hour, inspired by people who work with scary things and were alone. “I wanted to do everything I could to scare them.”
Olaf talks about writing a letter to a stranger that he missed, telling his secret friend that he is “with you with this music / I am with you with this rhyme / if you need me / I am with you at any moment – Any time. The video is accompanied by a full set of Disney classic clips, including moments from “The Lady and Trump”, “Alice in Wonderland” and “Beauty and the Beast”.
The character is voiced by Josh Gad, adding to his vocals for heartwarming songs that are what social distance is – to protect one another – but provide laughter at this unprecedented time.
Another person who recently shared their music is rapper Snoop Dogg. “I had to get in my car and listen to this guy,” Snoop said in the video. Let go We’ll be out soon. “Lopez got a kick out of the video; he admits, ‘We’ve been watching it all day.’
