Jeremy Renner’s accident occurs while helping stranded family members

Jeremy Renner was involved in an avalanche accident while helping a family member whose car was stuck in snow, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

“Based on our investigation, Mr. Renner’s personal vehicle, driven by a family member, was stuck in the snow near his home,” Washoe County Sheriff Doreen Balam said during a news conference. “Mr. Renner went to retrieve his Piston Bully, or Snowcat, a very large piece of snow removal equipment that weighs at least 14,330 pounds to move his vehicle. On Monday, Reno Mayor Hilary Schieve told the Reno Gazette-Journal that Rainer was helping someone stuck in the snow when he left with his own snowplow. “He’s always helping others,” he told the newspaper.

On January 2, the “Hawkeye” star underwent two surgeries after suffering blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries in a weather-related incident. After the surgery, Renner remained in the intensive care unit in “critical but stable condition,” according to his rep.

It’s unclear exactly how the incident happened, but Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a “traumatic injury” involving Renner in Reno, Nev., where they transported the actor to a nearby hospital. At the time, the sheriff’s office said Renner was the one involved in the crash.

In a Jan. 2 statement, the actor’s rep said, “Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses who cared for him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, the Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hilary Schieve and Carano. and the Murdoch family.
