Anderson identified his condition as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a disease that obstructs airflow from the lungs. The singer also discussed how he has not been in 18 months, saying that he has treated his condition with medication, avoiding areas of heavy pollution and keeping his lungs fit by pushing them to their limits.

“It’s still not at a stage where it affects my daily life,” Anderson said. “I can still run for the bus.”

Anderson was convicted of infecting the disease for his frequent stage performances around the fog machine. “I’ve spent 50 years of my life on stage in the kind of things I call smoking machines,” he said. “Today, they’re politely called dangerous, as if they’re innocent and don’t hurt your lungs.” I really believe that is a significant part of my problem. “
