Leading Taiwanese actor Kai Ko was seriously injured by a camera-carrying drone while filming the Mandarin-language fantasy series “Agent From Above.” The show is set to run on Netflix.
The incident occurred on December 27, 2022, but was first reported this week by Taiwan’s United Daily News. Later the makers confirmed the matter. They said diversity That production has resumed, but says that Ko (aka Ko Chen-tung) has not yet returned to work.
Ko’s manager told Taiwanese media that he suffered “severe disfigurement” after being hit in the face near his cheekbone. The manager said he would need 20-30 stitches.
The fantasy drama is produced by Singapore’s MM to Asia and Taiwan’s Good Films Productions.
“Kai Ko was involved in a drone accident on 27 December 2022 during the production of ‘Agent From Above’. The shoot was conducted within standard safety guidelines. The drone’s propeller blades were also covered by a protective layer and there were no explosions or broken blades as reported in some articles,” said a statement provided by mm2 and Good Films.
“We are deeply sorry that the accident happened and that Kai suffered an injury to his cheek. Kai was immediately treated, and his talent management team arranged for micro-stitches. The production team regrets the incident and is investigating the matter further. We have temporarily stopped filming to give our lead actor Kai time to rest and recover. We are looking forward to getting him back on set once he is fully recovered.”

Ko is a lead star whose first role was in the 2011 school drama film “You’re the Apple of My Eye,” which became a pan-Asian hit. She later starred in four “Tiny Times” social climber movies in China between 2013-1015.
He was arrested in Beijing in 2014 for drug possession. While Jackie Chan’s son Jesse Chan spent six months in jail for distributing marijuana and harboring other drug users, Ko served two weeks of judicial detention before returning to Taiwan. He has not appeared in mainland Chinese films or TV productions since then.
His career seems to have been slightly dented. Ko was the star of the gay drama “Moneyboys” which appeared in the Cannes Un Certain Regard category in 2021. He also starred in last year’s “Mama Boy” directed by Irvin Chen Shortly before beginning production on “Agent From Above” in November, Ko made his feature directorial debut with “Bad Education.”
The pitch for “Agent From Above” involves a former drug addict who is assigned for his sins to do the bidding of the legendary Chinese deity Sun Tai Ji. Alongside Ko, it stars Buffy Chen (“The Silent Forest”), Hsieh Shih-ling, Wang Po-chieh and Johnny Yang. Directed by Donny Lai Chun-Yu.
