India’s Viacom 18 studios and media personality Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions have partnered for a drama and broadcast distribution slate.
The two entities will collaborate on a range of Hindi language films, which are in different stages of production and are expected to be released in the next 18-24 months.
Films covered under the deal include “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” starring Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Ranbir Singh and Alia Bhatt; “Jagjag Geo” directed by Raj Mehta and starring Anil Kapoor, Neetu Singh Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani; Untitled picture of Shakun Batra starring Deepika Padukone, Ananya Pandey, Siddhanta Chaturvedi and Dhairya Karwa, as well as Shashank Khaitan’s next venture with Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar.

The alliance comes in the context of Religious Entertainment, the digital arm of religion, which emerged from a partnership signed in 2019 with Netflix. When the monopoly partnership is over, the market releases clothing to work with others, including the new series “Finding Anamika” for the religious streamer, followed by “The Great Life of Bollywood Wives” and the upcoming film “Meenakshi Sundareswar.”
Most of the religion films are currently streaming on Amazon and another deal is expected soon.
Viacom 18 is a joint venture between TV 18 and the US organization Viacom, in which billionaire Mukesh Ambani acquired a regulatory partnership in 2018.
