The sequel to popular Netflix teenager Rom-com “The Kissing Booth 2” will debut on the streaming service this summer. The follow-up – again starring Joey King, Joel Courtney and Jacob Elardy – landed on Netflix on July 24th.
King shared the news Thursday night during a live event on YouTube, where he joined his fellow members to reveal privacy about the upcoming film.
“The Kissing Booth” was a breakout hit among teenagers when it premiered in 2018, at which time Netflix reported that it was one of the most re-watched original films of the year. Although Netflix rarely provides statistics on the subject, Ted Sarandos, the company’s chief content officer, said “The Kissing Booth” was “one of the most watched movies in the country and probably in the world.”
The original film follows King’s character, a high school man who gets into trouble when he starts reading for his best friend’s older brother. The sequel’s tagline is “Rules can be broken, but so can the heart.”
Molly Ringwald, Megan Young and Carson White are repaying their roles from “The Kissing Booth”, while Maiji Richardson-Sellers and Taylor Zakhar Perez have joined the actress.
Vince Marcelo directed “The Kissing Booth 2” from a screenplay he wrote with J. Arnold. Both were adapted from Beth Reckles’ novel.
