Led by producer Olmo Figueroa, the famous Andalusian production house La Claqueta will produce Spanish director Manuel H. Martin’s first animated feature “Bella” – with which the company has previously won the award-winning documentaries “30 Years of Darkness” and “Lairz’s V.” Amparo Martinez celebrated Barco (“Marshland,” “The Head”).
Martin co-wrote the screenplay for “Bella”, working with award-winning filmmaker Carmen Jimenez, co-author of the 2019 Spanish Academy Goa award-winning “Adias” Mario Casas.
“Bella” is inspired by the true story of Anna Bella Estevez of Seville, an Ashoka Espa entrepreneur and survivor of the Gender Violence Foundation who founded the Anna Bella Foundation, a global network of more than 300,000 women working to bring about social change in two countries worldwide. . Importantly, the film crew chose animation as her storytelling medium so that viewers of all ages could hear important messages for Anna to share her life.
Although “Bella” will be Martin’s first journey to create a fully animated feature, she has worked on an animated sequence in “30 Years of Darkness”, a documentary about Spanish tops or moles in English, some of Franco’s murderous opponents who were in hiding during the Spanish Civil War. It’s been almost three decades since the general amnesty was announced in the late decade. The documentary is a key inspiration for the award-winning Spanish best international feature film submission “The Endless Trench”, produced by La Claqueta.
Martin explained Diversity That said, “Our team knows that this is a difficult story to tell, and sadly all contemporary, so we chose a subtle and subtle aesthetic. , Finds a very readily available language, especially for young visitors.
On his behalf, Martinez said: “The main challenge presented to us by this film is to tell the story of Bella, the story of gender violence through analogy. The disorder of abuse is not understood by age, so we feel obliged to make a film that is young. Audiences can be reached, and animation allows such stories to be told.
“Bella” will be produced by Olmo Figueroa Gonzalez-Cuevido for La Claqueta and the purpose-built label Bella La Pelicula. Sara Gomez is the executive producer and the film is supported by ICAA Spanish Audiovisual Agency and other government organizations including Junta de Andalucía. As a project, the script was created with the European program EAVE and Source.
“I met Anna Bella Estevez at an awards ceremony eight years ago and her inspiring speech showed me that the only way to get a woman out of an environment of gender-based violence is to not only show the physical consequences of other victims, but to show the survivors’ stories. For it is more effective, ”said Figueroa.“ With an important and positive approach, we hope that there is always an alternative and that there is always someone who wants to help us. That was the beginning of this film. ”
