“I Promise,” a documentary film that tells the story of LeBron James’s efforts to close the educational gap in his hometown of Akron, is coming to the YouTube original channel later this month.
The film, directed by Mark Levine, premiered on Thursday, September 28 at 12 noon, which is available for free viewing (with commercials). Originally Greenlead as a series by Jeffrey Katzenberg’s now inactive QUEBI, “I Promise” was adopted by the YouTube Originals team as a feature-length film. The 102-minute documentary by the NBA superstar premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Festival in June.

Susan Daniels is the world head of original YouTube content; Nadine Zylstra works as the head of the family for Learning YouTube Origin, Learning and Impact, Development Manager Joe de Stefano and oversees “I Promise” for YouTube Original.
The lineup of YouTube Originals includes an upcoming new slate of sustainable focused programming: “Seat at the Table” with David Attenborough and producer Jack Harris; “St Wild” from Brave Wilderness in partnership with Appian Way and Medica Productions (work title); And “Stop It Soon” (work title) from AsapSCIENCE and B17 Entertainment.
Other YouTube originals include projects recently launched from the #YouTubeBlack Voices Fund, such as “Bear Witness, Tech Action 2”, which has continued the movement for racial justice and saved black lives; “Resist,” a documentary series by Patrice Coolers, co-founder of Black Lives Matter; And “Barbarism Medicine,” exploring the effects of race and socio-economic conditions on healthcare and longevity.
