Les Brown Jr. Dead: Musician, actor and producer was 82

Les Brown Jr., a musician whose entertainment career included acting, writing, directing and producing, died of cancer Jan. 9 at his home in Branson, Mo., his family announced. He was 82.

Brown Jr. was the son of composer and bandleader Les Brown Sr., who led Les Brown and His Band of Renown. After his father’s death in 2001, Brown became the full-time leader of his father’s band, performing around the world and at a regular big band show in Branson, Mo.

In his youth, Brown Jr. worked as an actor in many TV shows and movies, including “Gunsmoke,” “Lassie,” “General Hospital,” “F-Troop,” “The Lucy Show,” “Green Acres.” “Gilligan’s Island,” “Wild, Wild Winter” and “The Bailey of Balboa,” the latter of which he co-starred with Jim Bailey.

His extensive music career began with the solo album “Wildest Drums Yet!” with And that includes being the drummer and vocalist for his band The Rockin’ Foo, performing on his tour dates with the likes of Carlos Santana. He was a concert promoter and record producer for jazz and country music artists including Merle Haggard, Shirley Jones, Doris Day, Mickey Gilley, The Lettermen and Loretta Lynn.

He later hosted a national radio show on the “Music of Your Life” network and most recently a show on SiriusXM’s 40s Junction titled After the Band of Renown.

Brown Jr. was born in New York City in 1940 to Les and Claire Brown. He will be remembered for his love of horseback riding, sports cars and his dog Romeo.

Brown Jr. is survived by his wife of 21 years, Alexa Brown, daughter Emily Cabral, son Christopher Brown, grandsons McCoy, Winden and Soleil Brown, stepson Blake Worrell, stepdaughters Kelly and Erin Ellis, sister Denise Marsh-Jordan, nephew Jeff Marsh. and Michael Lyons, cousins ​​Terry Brown and Bruce Brown and uncle Clyde Brown.
