Universal has teamed up with filmmaker Luca Guadagnino to develop a redesign of his eyes to direct him into the studio.
The latest versions of the script were written by Joel Coen and Ethan Coin by Gareth Danet-Alcoser, Jonathan Herman and Paul Atanasio.
“Scarface” will be produced by Dylan Clark for his Dylan Clark production. Scott Stuber will co-produce Marco Marabito as well as the executive. SVP Brian Williams will also be the executive producer for Dylan Clark Productions.
The story has been adapted several times, most recently in the 1973 classic Bacian DiPalma starring Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer. The new film will be a revision of the original immigrant story told in both 1932 and 1983 films and set in Los Angeles.
Senior VP Productions J. Polidoro and Development Director Lexi Barta will oversee the project for the Universal.
Guadagnino has spent most of his career directing acclaimed films, so “Scarface” will be the closest he gets to the tent pick. She recently helmed a remake of Amazon Studios’ “Saspiria”, starring Dakota Johnson, Tilda Sweeton and Chloe Moretz. Prior to that, he directed the Academy Award-winning drama “Call Me With Your Name”, which nominated him for an Oscar.
He is currently in post-production of his HBO limited series “Who We Are”, starring Alice Braga and Kid Chudi, and is also developing a remake of ‘Lord of the Flies’ for Warner Bros.
He has been re-elected to WME and Goodman, Schenman LLP.
