Long-running standalone label Mom + Pop Music Radio has entered into another joint venture with artist Brent Battles and Christopher Brown, a radio promo executive who promotes and develops the artist. According to the announcement, as part of the management, Mom + Pop artists will be able to tap more commercial radio teams in pop, crossover and rock formats and invest in further growth of the label.
The two companies have enjoyed success on the radio in recent months, with Mom + pop actor Ash breaking his breakout song “On the Morality of the Story” most popularly moving the song to the top ten on alternative radio and now surpassing pop and hot AC, and the latest single is last week’s Variety One of the top songs.
Also for the first time on U.S. Alternative Radio has successfully charted Flum with “Difference” (Fame. Toro Y Moi) and achieved the top 10 Alt hits with LoveLeathBand. Other clients include AJR (S Curve), Kelsia Balerini (Black River), Jeep artist Arshi and C3 Management Median.
“As we approach the end of our time at Orchard, we’ve long noticed the state of the industry,” said Battels, further president and founder. “It was clear that streaming was going to produce more independent hit songs, the industry needed a nimble individual company that could bring these songs to the radio, no matter where they came from – indie labels, distributors, management companies, international markets or just DIY. After working with the Mom + Pop team for several years, we knew they were serious about building long-term careers. Their understanding of both short and long games has made Mom + Pop a more obvious partner. “
Brown, more partners and co-founders, added, “We’ve finally been able to make a choice about how we’re going to do this, and this investment will ensure the flexibility to continue working with artists and executives with our great history.”
Mother + Pop co-owner, Thaddeus Rudd: “A great promo team working harder on Ash Breaking is a testament to the idea of what can be achieved with the right artist story. It’s a rare strategic opportunity to ensure access to artists’ services. “
Mother + Pop founder and co-owner, Michael Goldstone: “Battles and Brown are great promoters and performers and trusted partners; our initiative ensures that Mom + Pop will compete on the radio in the long run.
