Mark Maron pays emotional tribute to his late girlfriend and creative collaborator Lynn Shelton, who died Saturday at the age of 44 from an unknown blood disorder. In Maron’s popular podcast, “WTF with Mark Maron”, the filmmaker detailed his relationship with the comedian.

“He was my partner. She was my girlfriend. He was my friend. And I loved him. Lots. And he loved me, and I knew it, “Meron said tearfully.” I don’t know if I’ve ever felt what I’ve felt with him before. I don’t really know. I didn’t. I don’t have it. I was just beginning to be able to show it properly in intimate relationships. “

Maron first met Shelton in 2013 when he appeared on the podcast. He recalled being “nervous” to meet her, but said they were instantly connected and later worked together on Shelton’s 2019 film “Sword of Faith”.

“With Lynn Shelton I got very comfortable with this guy. I don’t really feel comfortable emotionally or otherwise, but because of his love for me I’ve been able to be in a place of self-acceptance, “Meron said.” I’ve made him smile all the time. He makes me laugh. We’re happy. “

Maron struggled to hold back tears as she heard of Shelton’s sudden illness. At first, they thought she had a strap neck. He was then tested for COVID-19, which came back negative. On Thursday, the couple consulted a doctor, who advised him to seek treatment for his fever. Maron said he asked Shelton to go to the doctor the next day for a blood test.

“I woke up in the middle of the night on my way to the bathroom to hear her collapse in the hallway and she was on the floor and she couldn’t move. She was conscious but a little happy. I called 9-1-1, they came and found her, and the last time I saw him take her to the floor alive, ”Meron said.

When he arrived at the hospital, Maron said he was anemic, had low blood pressure and had internal bleeding. They both went to the hospital, but were eventually removed from life support. He died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

“She was a wonderful woman. He was an inspiration to some people. Loved by so many people, he was a very determined artist who had to present his expression to the world in any way. Man, for his friends, for his son, has a strong love for Milo, ”Meron said. “My relationship with him, I can’t even explain it. But I want to tell you, no one could say anything bad about Lynn Shelton, to be sure. She’s amazing, her movies are amazing, they’re amazing. Everyone who’s worked with her. Loved him “”

The rest of Maroon’s podcast episode was a re-broadcast of his 2015 interview with Shelton.

“It was undeniable that we were connected. My connection with him is almost seamless. I don’t have any self-consciousness when I’m with him, ”he said. As such, I was definitely a good person when I was involved in everything. In Lynn Shelton’s view, I was even better. “
