Meet Ty Randolph, CEO of Kevin Hart’s Heartbeat Media Ventures

2 min read

It doesn’t take an industry insider to understand how busy Kevin Hart is.

But what many of his fans don’t know is that in addition to the many films, TV series and stand-up performances that highlight his talent, Hart also has a budding media empire that he’s building with his CEO, Ty Randolph.

Hart turned to him last April to lead a capital raise, bringing in a $100 million investment from private-equity firm Abri Partners, and he oversaw the merger of two disparate companies, Laugh Out Loud and Heartbeat Prods, to form Heartbeat.

“It was very clear that independently these are interesting companies,” Randolph said in the latest episode diversity Podcast “Strictly Business.” “Though together, we already have the combined under the hood, capabilities and staff to create, market and monetize truly any type of comedy IP we can imagine. And so we were stronger together.”

Randolph shared growth plans for Heartbeat, which has doubled its team size to manage more than 70 projects currently in development, as well as a first-look unscripted TV deal with NBCUniversal’s Peacock and a four-picture deal with Netflix.

Randolph is also the creator of Women Write Now, a fellowship program that will return to the Sundance Film Festival for a second year. Supported by Heartbeat, the program focuses on championing Black female writers and actors by helping them take their productions from script to screen.

“Writers have a hard time,” Randolph said. “But I’ve noticed that black women and film actresses have a harder time transitioning from acting to directing. So we pair these writers with first-rate directors who are actresses. And then we produce these films for them with a significant budget.”
