While discussing his new movie “Infinity Pool”. diversity Studio presented by Audible at Sundance, Mia Goth breaks down one of the most talked about moments from her 2022 film “Pearl.” In the movie, the titular murdered housewife auditions for a church dance competition and breaks down when she finds out she didn’t make the cut, hysterically yelling “I’m a star!”
The moment took on a life of its own months after the film’s release, with the clip becoming a popular meme on social media sites like TikTok. Yet Goth said the moment was born on set, with no preconceived notions of how he would play it.
“I knew it was an important moment in the script,” he said. “I didn’t necessarily know how big it was going to be. I don’t really like to think through scenes in too much detail, to be honest. I do all my prep, but I honestly think my body always has a better idea than my head. And so I hope all the preparations I’ve done and all the work I’ve done shooting will see me through. So I can set and I feel it and I see how it goes, and at that moment it just felt right. It’s a natural process.”
Goth also discussed what drew him to “Infinity Pools.”
“It was [director] Brandon [Cronenberg],” she said. “I think Brandon has such a unique perspective on the world in his films. I love them. I’ve been a fan of his work for a long time and I really think Brandon is a true master of his craft.”
