MTV’s prom, Dylan’s birthday, cheers and more – variety
6 min read
For a long Memorial Day weekend, there will be plenty of possibilities to row, row, row your boat down the livestream. If you really want to be memorable, Yo-Yo Ma Bach will play, in honor of the dead, and Lee Bryce and others will salute the military. If a holiday barbecue keeps your mood even higher, Sublime with Rome will host one from their backyard on Long Beach with a full band set.
Various online “prom” horizons are on the horizon, starting one Friday night via MTV’s website and include Bebe Rekha, Janelle Mona, DJ Khaled and Tori Lenz. Both the Airborne Toxic Event and Steve Earl are doing album-releasing events to play most or all of their entirely new records. Bob Dylan will receive a birthday salute led by Joan Baiz, and BET is hosting an event in memory of Andre Harrell.
Although one of these livestream shows will take place in front of a live audience of only a few hundred people. This is the concert of progressive rock band Spafford, which will air a show from a drive-in of their Arizona state on Sunday night. They immediately sold out the show where they will perform for several hundred social distance vehicles provided by the vehicle to facilitate trying this new gig format. Jordan Fairless, a resident of Spafford, said: “We’re all excited to be testing how people can still have a concert experience.” We keep trying and we can get as close to a traditional concert experience as we can while being safe. There will be a big buzz. You know, for the first time in two months, everyone is interested in getting some live music. “
