Nick Carter drops emotional tribute ballad dedicated to Aaron Carter

2 min read

Two months after the death of singer and former child star Aaron Carter, his older brother Nick Carter is paying tribute in a new heartbreaking song titled “Hearts to Love You.”

The single dropped on Wednesday morning and Nick made the announcement on social media with a snippet of the as-yet-unreleased music video, which sees him singing the track as old home videos of the two brothers are projected in the background. “We all have that one person in our lives that no matter what they do and no matter how bad it is, you still love them,” Nick wrote in an Instagram caption. “So I acted the best way I knew how.”

The song itself touches on Nick’s hope that Aaron will get better, as he struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues before his sudden death on November 5 at the age of 34. The title track rings through the chorus, where the Backstreet Boys member declares his late brother “hard to love,” even though he does so unconditionally.

“Miss you with all my heart, you know I always will/ I’ve always prayed for the peace of my soul,” he sings. “It’s hard to let go of anger/ I know it took me a while.”

The Carter family had a strained relationship with Aaron over the years as he struggled to maintain his sobriety. In a 2019 Entertainment Tonight interview regarding a DUI arrest, Aaron confirmed that he suffered from multiple mental health issues. Weeks later, Nick gets a restraining order against Aaron; She reportedly accused Aaron of threatening to physically harm her family.

“Although my brother and I had a complicated relationship, my love for him never wavered,” Nick wrote in a tribute post after his brother’s death. “I always held out hope that somehow, someday he would walk a healthy path and finally find the help he so desperately needed. Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for the loss. But the truth is that addiction and mental illness are the real villains here. I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you Chiz., now you finally get a chance to find some peace that you will never find here on earth…God, please take care of my baby brother.”
