‘Nomadland’ has taken the top prize in the Toronto Critics Awards

At the 24th Annual Toronto Film Critics Awards (TFCA), Best Actress won Chloe Best Director and Frances McDormond won Best Actress for “Nomland”, and Riz Ahmed won Best Actor for “Sound of Metal”.

TFCA members voted on the award at a virtual meeting on Sunday. Along with them, Rogers Best Canadian Film Awards will be presented at a virtual festival in Toronto on March 9. Jason Riley, an indigenous producer, curator and story editor, who received the 2021 Clyde Gilmore Award, the outgoing executive director of the Kalpana National Film Festival. Nominated for the Toronto Star Film Critics, the award recognizes Canadian art who has made substantial and outstanding contributions to the advancement and / or history of Canadian cinema.

Kelly Fifi-Marshall announced the winner of the J. Scott Award for Emerging Artist. His short film “Black Bodies” debuted international acclaim last year and earned shots in its first feature. The award was named for Globe and Mail critics who acquired young film talent.

Cinemaplex Entertainment received the Emerging Critics Award in a tie vote to Mark Hanson and Rose Howe.
