Oscars 2023: Complete list of eligible feature films

2 min read

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday that 301 feature films are eligible for the 95th Oscars, including presumed contenders such as “Elvis,” “The Fablemans” and “Living.” This number of films marks an increase from last year’s 276 films that were eligible from 2021, and down from 366 in 2020 at the height of the pandemic.

All expected contenders are listed in the Academy’s annual reminder list of eligible productions for the 95th Academy Awards, including performers eligible for consideration in the acting category.

The year’s top-grossing movies include “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” while critically acclaimed features such as “The Banshees of Inisharin,” “Everything Everywhere” All At Everything Everything All At Ex” and “Tar” are also mixed.

Streamers are well represented with Netflix’s “All Quiet on the Western Front” and “Glass Onion,” Amazon’s “Argentina, 1985” and “Thirteen Lives,” and Apple’s “Cha Cha Real Smooth” and “Emancipation.”

There are also several international features, even if they are not official submissions from their countries, such as SS Rajamouli’s Indian-Tollywood epic “RRR” and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Korean drama “Broker.”

There’s also a solid showing for female-led vehicles like Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Woman King,” Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun” and Sarah Polley’s “Woman Talking.”

Kelly Richards’ “Showing Up” is not listed. Although it debuted at Cannes, A24 has opted for a 2023 release. Despite being released in theaters in April, and receiving solid reviews, Mayim Bialik’s directorial debut “As They Made Us” was not among the 301 movies from Quiver.

9,623 eligible voting members will begin filling out their ballots on Thursday, January 12 at 9:00 AM PST and ballots will close on Tuesday, January 17 at 5:00 PM PST. The official Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24, with the ceremony broadcast live on ABC on March 12 from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
