Set on the outskirts of Cartagena de Chile, “Kaye” sees 13-year-olds Yeka and Yavanna singing romantic bolero songs that contrast with the often violent songs of Pablo, Yeka’s older brother and an incoming trap star. The girls liked the older brother and followed him to a concert in a nearby village, where Yavanna was shot and wounded in the crowd. When the adults around her refuse to investigate the young woman’s death or even properly admit it, Yeka takes matters into her own hands, exploring the veracity of the shot that killed her friend.

Valeria Fuentes, director of “Pero Bomba” photography, returned to the same role for “Kaye”. Elisa Torres assisted in the production of Katherine Luke in the role of assistant director. Ugarte’s regular collaborator Sandoval, the producer of “Pero Bomba”, has joined as executive producer. Sound tech Camilla Pruzzo, who joined Guadalajara’s rival player “Piola” and San Sebastian standout “Some Beast” editor Valeria Hernandez.

“In addition to considering film as a dedicated medium of entertainment, we also see it as a tool for change. “It’s our way of contributing to a better society,” Ugarte said.

As a project, “Kaye” has participated in multiple international film labs, winning the best pitch at the Biosign Meetings in Italy in 2019.
