Green-Aftara public health expert Jonathan E. Fielding is advising the union on developing and implementing new security protocols to join the team of experts when production resumes.
“Cavid-19 remains the most serious health threat to those who want to return to work and need it. So developing guidelines for protecting the health of human work is an important element in reopening this important industry, ”Fielding said in a statement.
The union made the announcement on Wednesday. Fielding has served for 16 years as director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and is a distinguished professor at the UCLA at the Fielding School of Public Health and the Jeffen School of Medicine. Its main purpose is to develop a protocol with union leaders to establish minimum safety standards and to further mitigate the risks associated with the modal method of production.
“We are working tirelessly to establish a structure that will allow our members to return to work safely,” said Gabriel Carteris, President of SAG-AFTRA. Dr. Fielding’s expertise is a critical piece to address the unique challenge that our industry is presenting.
The Performers Union has about 160,000 members, most of whom have been without work since the coronavirus epidemic forced a shutdown in March.
Sag-Aftra National Executive Director David P. “Our goal is to create a comprehensive and practical framework for safe return to work,” White said. Our members, like everyone else in the industry, want to return to make a living doing what they love: providing stories and news to entertain and tell stories to a global audience. Dr. Fielding is very pleased to join us as a leading partner and guide in this process. “
