Marcia Lucas, the Oscar-winning editor of the original “Star Wars,” was not too happy about Disney’s sequel trilogy. He said in an interview with producer Kathleen Kennedy and director JJ Abrams “don’t understand” and in an interview with JW Rinzler’s book “Howard Kazanzian: A Producers Life” that “stories are horrible” that examines the producer’s life, including his time. The “Star Wars” franchise.
“I like Kathleen. I always liked him. He was full of beans. She was really smart and really bright. Really awesome woman. And I liked her husband Frank. I liked them a lot. Now that he’s running Lucasfilm and doing movies, it seems to me that Kathy Kennedy and JJ Abrams have no idea about ‘Star Wars’. They don’t get it. And JJ Abrams writes these stories – I was furious when I saw the movie where they killed Han Solo. I was angry when they killed Han Solo. Of course, positively there was no rhyme or reason for it. I thought, ‘You don’t get the JD story. You won’t find the magic of ‘Star Wars’. Are you getting rid of Han Solo? ” Lucas says in the book.
He worked as an editor in “Star Wars”, for which he won an Oscar for film editing in 1977, and was an unauthorized editor in “Return of the Jedi” and “The Empire Strikes Back”. In the first film of the trilogy, Lucas was credited with editing Evin’s thrilling battle and Death Star Assault sequence. His other editing credits include “Taxi Driver”, for which he earned a BAFTA node, “American Graffiti”, which earned him an Oscar nomination, “Alice Don’t Live Enermore” and “New York, New York.” She was married to “Star Wars” producer George Lucas from 1969-1983.
After working on the original trilogy, he criticized the deaths of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa and Ray, who starred in the Disney sequel trilogy Daisy Ridley.
“They broke Luke. They killed Han Solo. They killed Luke Skywalker. And they no longer have Princess Leah. And they are spitting movies every year. And they think it’s important for a woman to appeal to the audience, so now their main character is this woman, who is supposed to have JD power, but we don’t know how she got JD power, or who she is. It’s sucking. The stories are horrible. Just awful. Horrible, terrifying. You can quote me – ‘JJ Abrams, Cathy Kennedy – talk to me,’ ”Lucas says in the book.
