Stevie Wonder Brings House Down at Los Angeles Global Citizen Fest

We welcome the Los Angeles component of Global Citizen Live’s worldwide 2-hour live broadcast, if you return to the concert in person cautiously: for many who attended the Greek theater show on September 25, 2021, it was their first March 2020. Flashing vaccine cards before entering, full-capacity crowd holding an all-star lineup with Stevie Wonder, HER, One Republic, 5 Seconds of Summer, Chloe X Haley, Demi Lovato and Adam Lambert.

Wonder is over with a new song, “The Living Killing Life”, screaming “I love you Stevie” from the crowd.

He launched a medley set of Marvin Guy’s “What’s Going On” and “Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)”, continued “Hold On” and finished with the cover of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way” . He incorporated the messages of Global Citizen into his music and his satire.

Entering the spirit of joint performance, Lovato and Lambert Tears for Fears teamed up for a cover of “Mad World”, for which the two wore matching pants. The additional fifth version of Lovato was only piano with “Anyone”, and Lambert came after his move to a full band “superpower” with his recommendation.

Continuing the theme of joint performance, Wonder and Sheila E. Jumped on stage with OnePublic to tell them “I know this.” Love Angels is the latest location for Global Citizen Live’s global broadcast, designed to draw attention to the organization’s mission: “A recovery plan for the world,” aimed at ending Covid-1 and initiating a global recovery. The campaign calls on world leaders, social workers and the private sector to pledge and prioritize climate change, famine and vaccine equity.

These messages were repeated through the personal presence of various personalities from Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Maggie Cue, JoJo, Congresswoman Maxine Waters and MJ Rodriguez. Also members of the Los Angeles Fire Department were urgently talking about California fires, and local youth workers. There was also an array of tape appearances from collections of international activists, politicians and celebrities. It was accompanied by a grim picture of famine and climate crisis and statistics from around the world.

Far from telethon, the global nature of the events and the level of star power, as well as the financial and commitment obligations to go to concerts and not be on the spectators give the events a festive feel. It has been augmented by footage from the Global Citizen Festival since last year and footage from other cities, including Fuses in New York and Christine and Queens in Paris.

Post Global Citizen Live, the company has pledged 60 million Covid-19 vaccines, 157 million trees and 1. 1.1 billion in climate, famine and COVID-19 response efforts.
