Streamer Hoichowi expands to Bangladesh with eight originals

India-headquartered Bengali-language focused streamer Hoichoi has unveiled eight originals in its 2023 slate targeting the booming market of Bangladesh.

The slate features a mix of established and emerging talent.

Adapted from Moshiul Alam’s novel “Priscilla”, “Delta 2051” is set in a dystopian future Bangladesh. Created by Taneem Noor, produced by Syed Ahmed Shawki and executive produced by Mir Mokarram Hussain, the cast includes Ajmeri Haque Badhan, star of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2021 Cannes title “Rehana” Best Actress-winner; Intekhab Dinar and Rawnak Hasan.

Directed by Tanim Rahman Anshu and produced by Shahriar Shakeel and Mushfiqur Rahman, “Buker Moder Agun”, stars Ziaul Farooq Apurba and revolves around the death of a 1990s superstar.

Ashfaq Nipun’s morality tale “A Common Man”, starring Afran Nisho, while Sunny Sanwar and Faisal Ahmed’s crime drama “Mission Huntdown”, produced by Parvez Amin, stars Vidya Sinha, Saha Mim and FS Naeem.

Anam Biswas’ “Rangeela Kitab” is based on Kingkar Ahsan’s best-selling love-themed novel of the same name.

Shahriar Shakeel produced the kidnap drama “Odrisio” written by Shafayet Mansoor Rana.

Also, the second season of Noor’s “Kaiser” produced by Hossain and starring Nisho; And Nipun’s “Mohnagar” produced by Md. Habibur Rahman Tarek and Adnan Al Rajeev starring Musharraf Karim has been commissioned.

Hoichoi co-founder Vishnu Kant Mohta said: “We launched Hoichoi Bangladesh in 2019, when OTT [streaming] Culture was almost a vague concept in the country. But we saw great performances and films coming out of the country and knew we needed to tap into this market. Since the inception of Hoichoi in Bangladesh we have delivered some highly successful shows that are loved and recognized worldwide. Our users are the main reason for our growth and we are very grateful for the love they show us. That’s why we’re delighted to announce eight new shows in 2023 and grow our content slate from this country.”

Hoichoi’s competitor Chorki revealed plans for a 25-strong slate in October 2022. Hoichoi also revealed a 25-strong slate in September 2022, with a mix of Indian and Bangladeshi content.
