The Sundance Film Festival is back in person for the first time since 2020, and all the same rules apply: stay hydrated, dust off your comfiest snow boots, and leave formal wear at home. A private Sundance will certainly reinvigorate the festival, but some attendees may feel a bit overwhelmed after two years at home. Nothing to worry about. Given below diversityEssential Tips for Surviving the Sundance Film Festival
Keep drinking water
Park City’s altitude can be uncomfortable, so go ahead and double your daily water intake. Sundance veterans know to start hydrating a week before heading to Park City. Bring a reusable bottle or thermos with you to Park City so you always have water with you.
Pack covid test and cold meds
Will Sundance be a super spreader event? The truth is that Sundance was already a super-spreader event before Covid thanks to the infamous “Sundance Flu”. There’s almost always a bug that rips through the festivities each year, so be prepared by packing plenty of cold medicine (Dequil and Advil are essential). Now that covid is in the mix, pack at least two home covid tests because who knows how hard testing will be in Park City.
what to wear
Sundance casual means no need for tuxedos, gowns and high heels. Ears, it doesn’t. Pack jeans, sweaters, flannels, gloves and snow hats. Boots are the most essential item, but Sundance does bring a new pair. With all the walking, and the elevation on Main Street, you’ll want your most comfortable, well-worn pair with you. Also, pack extra socks in your bag before heading out each day as a change (or two) may be needed later on the slushy, muddy roads.
Learn the transit map
You can’t rely on ride-share apps like Uber or Lyft in Park City because traffic skyrockets and roads become clogged during the festival. The festival is not entirely walkable, as many theaters are several miles from Main Street (including Eccles, where all the big premieres screen). Familiarize yourself with Sundance’s transit map in advance because the festival offers free buses and shuttles. They are easily accessible and almost always on time. Theater Loop will be your new best friend.
Dear Adolphus, then where to eat? Taste of Saigon is a main street staple for Vietnamese food and Chimayo is reliable Southwestern fare. El Chubasco has Mexican food on the cheaper side and Fuego has the best pizza, both located right next to the Marriott headquarters in Sundance. Atticus is your go-to spot for a quick bite and coffee on Main Street. Since restaurants get so crowded and wait times are long, the smartest thing to do is go to Whole Foods on your first day and load up on snacks and sandwich essentials. Have cereal or oatmeal for breakfast, then make lunch at home and take it with you.
