Tasvir Film Fund launched on Monday – Variety

The Seattle Fund is launching Monday to bridge the funding gap for South Asian filmmakers. According to the organizers, the Tasvir Film Fund will initially provide 5 5,000 to South Asian shorts filmmakers to tell their stories for the community.

Rita Meher, executive director of Tasvir South Asian Film Festival, and Pulkit Dutt, artistic director, said they discussed the fund before the coronavirus crisis began.

“After much discussion – the COVID crisis has hit the film industry hard, with many out of work and out of money. [has] “We’ve decided that this is the best time,” Dutt said. “If it helps a filmmaker, we should do it.”

Since the mission of the festival is social justice, the scripts should reflect the theme and should be five to 20 pages long. Interested applicants can submit their short film scripts through Filmfree. Deadline is July 30.

Supported by Tasvir, the Archana Soya Fund and local grants, the grant is a way to mark this Tasvir with 15 days of programming to mark the 15th anniversary of the South Asian Film Festival.

Meher said the film has given cash prizes in the past, but decided to raise funds this year. They waived the submission fee for the film and received about 300 applications since April.

Because of the epidemic, Tasvir will combine his three events into a festival that revolves around film, literature and the performing arts.
