Jorge Santana, the younger brother of musician and guitarist Carlos Santana, died of natural causes on Thursday. He was 68 years old.

Carlos Santana announced his brother’s death on his Facebook page on Friday.

Carlos wrote, “We take the time to celebrate the great attitude of our dear brother George. “He was transformed into a kingdom of light that casts no shadow. My glorious eyes have clearly seen us between our glorious and great mother Josephina and our father Jose. “

Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Santana was the youngest of three brothers and began playing the guitar after Carlos. He started playing the guitar in Santana San Francisco when he was 14, where he joined a high school band called The Malibus in the 1960s. The band later changed its name to Spanish Malo for “Bad”. The new name came from the mother of the person in front of the band who told them, “Todd’s son pulled Molos,” which means “You’re all bad.”

The band went on to sign with Warner Bros. and in 192, they were known for their top 20 hits for the song “Suvecito”. The group will perform at Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand” later that year.

Malo made three more albums before the band broke up. Santana played with the New York-based Salsa collective Fania All-Stars and played at Yankee Stadium in 1973. Five years later he released two paired albums, “Jorge Santana” and “It’s All Love”.

Santana worked with Carlos and his management company as director of artist relations. Santana traveled with her famous brother in 1993 and the following year they recorded an album with their cousin Carlos Hernandez called “Santana Brothers”.
