The weekend was nominated as a goodwill ambassador for the UN World Food Program in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon.
“The United Nations World Food Program is doing urgent and important work to change and save lives on a daily basis, and I am passionate about tackling world hunger and helping people in need. Our partnership is a real expansion to make all our efforts and help the needy and end so much suffering, ”said the music superstar.
Food program ambassadors, including Kate Hudson and Michael Kors, support global hunger with more than 100 million people in more than 80 countries annually with life-saving food aid agencies.
“We are thrilled to welcome the WFP family to the weekend,” said David Beasley, Executive Director of the Food Program. His empathy and commitment to help the hungry people of the world is truly inspiring. Every night, 811 million people go to bed hungry, and another 270 million are starving. This is not right and we need to talk and act today to save lives. We all need to join our movement to curb hunger – it is to work on deck to avoid a global catastrophe. “
Weekend’s humanitarian efforts last year gave millions of dollars in grants to various organizations. Most recently, he donated to the work of the United Nations World Food Program in Ethiopia after months of deadly violence in Ethiopia. Weekend’s parents moved to Canada from Ethiopia.
Baron Seger, president and CEO of the World Food Program USA, said: “He is working on global hunger, or saying that The Weekend’s voice is strong and inspiring, simply matched by his dedication to helping people around the world.” “We are honored that he has joined our mission. He will no doubt inspire the next generation of humanists so that no man, woman or child goes hungry. ”
