The Venice winner ‘El Gran Movimento’ is released from sovereignty to the UK

Sovereign Film Distribution has acquired the rights to “El Gran Movimento” from the United Kingdom and Ireland, which recently won a special jury award at the Venice Film Festival Horizons Strand.

Sovereign is planning to release a theater in 2022.

Following its world premiere in Venice, the film will be screened at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Jabaltegi-Tabakalera Award and also nominated at the New York Film Festival in late September.

Bolivian writer / director Kiro Russo’s “El Gran Movimento” (The Great Movement) follows a young man who arrives in the big city after a seven-day walk, where his persistently ill health sees him looking for an alternative. The film explores the clash of nature and urbanization.

Rousseau said: “I wanted to make a film about La Paz, with characters who could give a single perspective on the city. I found these characters in Elder, a young miner, and Max, a Trump whose strange position in society allows me to observe the whole city. Lets see its systems, architecture and changes.From freely inspired by their lives, I imagined this story of sickness and healing to take us to the heart of the social fabric of this city and reveal its invisible life.

Starring Julio Cesar Ticona, Max Batista Ucasara, Francesca Ars de Arrow, Israel Hartado and Gustavo Milon.

Russo’s debut feature “Dark Skull” (2016) played 80 festivals and won numerous awards, including Locarno and Cartagena.

Sovereign, who specializes in automated feature film distribution, recently won the Radu Jude’s Berlin Golden Bear winner “Bad Luck Bang or Luni Porn”, Kirill Serebrenikov’s ear contest title “Petrov Flu” and Epichatpong Viersethakul’s “Memorye” Three films will be released after they get their UK premiere at the film festival.
