“We welcome the prestigious new class of the Special Merit Award, it gives us the opportunity to be rewarded and recognized for the impact the music community has had, regardless of our genre,” said Harvey Mason Jr., Interim President / CEO of Recording Academy. “As a music creator and music lover I am grateful that we have been able to look back at our influences and the impact they have had on our community. In a year where music has helped keep us together, I look forward to honoring this iconic team of music makers. “
According to the announcement, the Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates actors who have made significant artistic contributions to recordings, while the Trustee Award honors such contributions in areas other than editing. The National Board of Trustees of the Recording Academy determines the honors of both awards. The Technical Grammy Award winners are voted on by the Academy’s Producer and Engineer Wing Advisory Council and Chapter Committee, and are approved by the Academy’s trustees. The award is presented to individuals and organizations who have made outstanding technical contributions to the recording industry.
